The “Corked” Industry

The badly damaged shape of the Portuguese cork industry – under attack from the media and a disappointed wine industry – has been saved so far by the agreeable image of its long-lasting tradition and the environment-friendly features of its products range; among these, the most important of all – the infamous cork stopper.

In an unprecedented turn, from the rural Alentejo region in the South to the industrial cities in the North, the cork industry is undergoing a silent revolution to improve its image in the world, the quality of its products, and to secure a future to a threatened 3,000 year-old tradition.
